Port or cape: the main choice
Milazzo is the ferry port for the Aeolian Islands, so many visitors stay one night before an early sailing. The choice comes down to two areas: near the port, or on the Capo Milazzo promontory, where the lighthouse viewpoint and the coastal paths are. The old town (Borgo) near the castle is a third option for people who mainly want to visit the citadel.

Compare the areas
Examples come from the hotels' own descriptions of their location.
| Area | Example from the hotels' own pages | Good for | Check before booking |
|---|---|---|---|
| Near the port | Petit Hotel describes a view over Milazzo harbour. Milazzo Inn, Via Pescheria 9, states about 200 m to the tourist harbour (porto turistico). | Early ferries and hydrofoils, arriving by airport bus | The distance to your own departure pier, because 200 m to the tourist harbour is not the same as 200 m to your boat |
| On the cape | Eolian Milazzo Hotel, Salita Cappuccini 21/23, states a position on the Capo Milazzo promontory and offers rooms with a balcony. | Walks on the cape, a longer stay | The exact street. On the promontory does not mean next to the lighthouse or the Pool of Venus |
| Old town (Borgo) | – | Visits to the castle | Parking at Via Impallomeni and the way up the Salita Castello |
A simple rule: if you leave on an early boat, check the address of your hotel against the pier before anything else. If you have two or three nights, a base on the cape suits walking days, and you plan how to reach the port on the day of the boat.

Planning around an early sailing
The October 2026 timetable of Liberty Lines, the hydrofoil operator, lists departures to Lipari at times that include 07:30 and 08:30. Siremar, run by Caronte and Tourist Isole Minori, has a separate plan for 1 to 31 October. Both publish new plans by season, so check the current timetable before you go.
On the hydrofoils with an online ticket, be at the boarding point 15 minutes before departure on national routes. On the Siremar ferries, plan to check in 30 minutes before departure without a vehicle and 60 minutes with one. Every traveller, including children and babies, needs valid identity papers.
With one night in Milazzo, drop your bags at the hotel after arriving. Liberty Lines allows one piece of hand baggage up to 10 kg, at most 60 by 40 by 20 cm, and charges extra for more.
Parking and arrival
If you come by car or from the airport.
Private garage by the port
Garage Italia, Viale A. Gramsci 51, lists 2026 prices of €15 a day for a covered car, €9 in the open air, €7 for a motorbike, €35 for a camper and €50 for a coach. It opens daily from 05:30 to 21:30. The page advertises a €5 reservation fee, and the tariff for covered cars includes a free shuttle. Check whether a reservation is needed and how part days are charged.
Parking at the old town
The Via Impallomeni car park for the Borgo opened in March 2026 with 81 spaces, free for one hour with a parking disc at the start. A later change to about €0.80 an hour was announced. Special passes that exempt residents from the time limit exist, but they are not a general rule for visitors.
From Catania Airport
The Giuntabus airport bus takes 2 hours and costs €13 one way or €26 return, with luggage included. From 1 July to 31 October 2026 it leaves Catania at 09:00, 10:00, 11:00, 12:30, 13:45, 15:30, 16:30, 17:30, 19:00 and 21:00. Our getting there guide has the details, and Catania Airport has its own guide.
Ask your hotel whether it has parking, whether it is free, and what is payable on arrival, including any local tourist tax. Do not assume that parking is included.

Where to stay in Milazzo: frequently asked questions
Is it better to stay near the port or on the cape?
Near the port if you take an early boat or arrive by bus. On the cape if you plan walks there. In both cases check the exact street, because "on the promontory" does not mean next to the lighthouse and "near the harbour" does not mean next to your pier.
How far is the port from the hotels?
It depends on the hotel. Milazzo Inn states about 200 m to the tourist harbour. That is not necessarily the distance to the ferry desk or your boat, so ask the hotel for the walk to your pier.
What does parking cost near the port?
A private garage lists €15 a day for a covered car and €9 in the open air in 2026. A municipal car park at Via Impallomeni was free for one hour with a disc when it opened in March 2026, with about €0.80 an hour announced for later.
Can I leave Milazzo early by bus to the airport?
The first Giuntabus from Milazzo Porto to Catania leaves at 05:30 between 1 July and 31 October 2026. The ride takes 2 hours and costs €13.
Do hotels charge a tourist tax?
Ask when you book. Tell the hotel whether children are with you, and ask what is payable on arrival.
